For the 2026–2027 NSW CPD year, compulsory topics for Class 1 and Class 2 property agents must be completed in an interactive training environment. That means the training is not simply “online or offline” — NSW Fair Trading specifies how the session must be delivered, who may deliver it, and the maximum number of attendees.
According to the NSW Government CPD page (last updated 9 July 2026 at the time of writing), compulsory topics must be delivered by a provider approved by the Strata and Property Services Commissioner, and they must be delivered either:
- face-to-face (maximum 40 attendees), or
- as an interactive webinar (maximum 25 attendees).

Why “interactive” matters
Compulsory CPD is designed to keep NSW property professionals current on topics tied to their licence category and area of practice. Fair Trading’s interactive-delivery rules sit alongside the published minimum hours and compulsory topic lists for each pathway.
In plain terms, you should be able to answer three questions before you enrol:
- Is the provider on the approved providers list for the CPD year?
- Is the session delivered as face-to-face or an interactive webinar within the published attendee caps?
- Does the training cover the compulsory topics (and minimum interactive hours) that apply to your licence category and area of practice?
If any of those answers is unclear, check the official CPD page before you book.
What counts as an interactive training environment
Fair Trading publishes two accepted formats for compulsory topics:
Face-to-face training
In-person delivery with a maximum of 40 attendees. This is the traditional workshop or classroom format — still interactive by design because the trainer and participants are in the same room.
Interactive webinar
Live online delivery with a maximum of 25 attendees. The published rule names this as an interactive webinar, which is why appropriately delivered online courses can satisfy the requirement when they are run live by an approved provider within that cap.
The published guidance does not list a self-paced, on-demand module as an interactive training environment for compulsory topics. When you compare providers, look for live webinar delivery (or face-to-face), not only “online CPD” marketing language.
Approved providers only for compulsory topics
Interactive delivery is only half of the rule. Compulsory topics must also be delivered by a training provider approved by the Strata and Property Services Commissioner.
The approved providers list for the 2026–27 CPD year is published on the same NSW CPD page. Fair Trading notes that more providers can seek approval throughout the CPD year, so always check the current list rather than relying on last year’s bookmarks.

How this fits your hours and topics
Interactive delivery does not replace your pathway requirements. You still need to complete the compulsory topics and minimum interactive hours that apply to:
- each licence category you hold, and
- the areas of practice in which you operate.
For example, a residential real estate salesperson has a published minimum of 7 hours of interactive training covering four compulsory topics. A strata managing agent has a published minimum of 6 hours covering three topics. - Provider status — Is the organisation named on the current approved providers list?
- Delivery format — Is the session face-to-face (≤40) or an interactive webinar (≤25)?
- Topics covered — Does the session map to the compulsory topics for your area of practice?
- Hours — Will completion contribute the interactive hours you still need for the CPD year?
- Evidence — What completion record will you receive, and can you keep it for the required retention period?

Assistant agents: a different pathway
Certificate of registration holders (assistant agents) follow a different CPD structure. They must complete units from a valid Certificate IV qualification required for a Class 2 Agent licence in their pathway — not the interactive compulsory-topic hours that apply to Class 1 and Class 2 licence holders.
